CHARITY Elche Children’s Care Home visited Specsavers Ópticas in Guardamar to present the team with a supporters’ banner and to thank them for their enduring support since 2015. In May, charity representative Dave Diggle gave the team the banner in recognition of the over 125 eye tests and 100 glasses that the store has donated to the charity over the last four years and its ongoing support for the charity.

The children who are cared for in the Elche Children’s Care Home can go and get their eyes tested for free at the opticians in Guardamar, Torrevieja or La Zenia. They are given complete eye tests, which also check the health of the eye and can detect the signs of a range of important health conditions. If the eye test reveals they need glasses, these are also donated free of charge to the charity.

Francisco Jurado, director of the Specsavers Ópticas stores in Guardamar, Torrevieja and La Zenia, comments: Good eye sight is vital for performing well at school and leading a full life. Many children are misdiagnosed with learning difficulties, when in fact they are struggling because their vision is poor. This is why we are dedicated to helping the children at Elche’s Children’s Care Home receive complete eye tests and provide the glasses they need to reach their full potential.

ECCH Charity provides for all the extra needs of the children in the Elche Children’s Care Home, such as clothing, school books, after school activities, toiletries, birthday and Christmas presents and so much more. The Charity is managed entirely by unpaid volunteers and all funds raised and donations made to the charity enable the children to continue to have a safe, happy, stable life.

ECCH’s volunteer administrator, Michelle Diggle, adds: Specsavers have been great supporters of our charity for quite some time now. There are many children passing through the home throughout the year who arrive with varying needs, therefore to have their eyes tested and glasses provided for them is invaluable. Speaking to the store director Francisco Jurado recently, it was abundantly clear that he is committed to helping in any way that he can, so we wanted to present him with this banner to thank him and all the team for their support.
