Specsavers Opticas have just one month to reach their target to collect over 4,500 pairs of glasses for the Lions Clubs International. So far they have collected a little over 2,000 pairs, so they need a lot of support from their local community to reach their target.

They have recently been collecting glasses as part of Specsavers Guardamar’s third anniversary and Easter party, when people came to enjoy the music, refreshments and Easter fun in the sunshine and donate their glasses to the campaign, as well as taking part in high profile event such as the International Women’s Day in Marbella to boost awareness.

This collection will change lives in areas where people desperately need access to glasses.  After the glasses are donated in store they are sent to the Lions Club’s recycling plant in Alicante where they are first separated into single vision, bifocals, varifocals and sunglasses. They are then graded according to prescription strength, cleaned and boxed for distribution.

Lions Club representatives are located across many developing countries including Africa and India. They test the eyes of locals and send requests for the required prescription glasses onto the fulfilment plant and each pair of glasses will make a huge difference to someone.

Specsavers Opticas currently has eight stores in Spain; Marbella and Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol, Santa Ponça Mallorca, Calpe, Javea, Benidorm, Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. The campaign runs until 29th April 2015, to find your nearest store visit www.specsavers.es. For more information on Lions Clubs International and to find your local branch visit www.lionsclubs.org
