If your optician says that you have high pressure in the eye what does this mean?
Answer:
When opticians talk about pressure within the eye (intra-ocular pressure, or IOP), they mean pressure of the fluid which fills the eye, rather than pressure of blood in the vessels which keep the structures of the eye supplied with oxygen and nutrients. High IOP is associated with the development of certain eye conditions, such as glaucoma. A regular eye examination with your optician is the best way to reassure yourself about the condition of your eyes and vision.
