I am a diabetic on insulin. Is it safe for me to wear contacts and if so which type would you recommend?
Answer:
Diabetes itself is not a contra-indication to contact lens wear. However, it is important that you are aware that in the event of injury (e.g. a corneal abrasion) it may take longer to heal and any infections may take longer to clear than in contact lens wearer without diabetesTherefore good practice principles in hygiene and handling are all the more important and your optician will probably advise that you are fitted with a contact lens that with good oxygen transmission properties. Please visit your local optician who will be happy to organise a contact lens trial and answer any questions you may have.
